Reading is Fundamental

Reading is Fundamental (RIF) prepares and motivates children to read by delivering free books to those children and families who need them most. Kiwanis volunteers hand deliver the books to schools and join in on the fun with a read-along!

All RIF programs combine three essential elements to foster children's literacy:

  • reading motivation
  • family and community involvement
  • the excitement of choosing free books to keep.

Our Kiwanis Club of Ahwatukee sponsors the RIF program in three local headstart pre-schools, which serve approximately 100 children, ages 2-5. Volunteers visit the classroom three times a year to read stories the children and then let them choose their very own book to take home!

This is a very positive program and well received by both the children, who can hardly wait to pick out a book, and the teachers, who also receive extra books for their classroom library.

Kiwanis is a non profit organization that relies on donations from community members just like you.
